Forged in Okinawa While our clinical backgrounds are diverse, our team shares a common origin. Our founders served together at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Okinawa, Japan, where we managed some of the most complex oral and maxillofacial cases in the Pacific. It was during these years of service that we developed a deep mutual respect for each other’s surgical skill and a unified commitment to the highest standards of patient safety and outcomes.
Beyond the Uniform After transitioning from military service, our desire to redefine the private surgical experience brought us back together. We founded RB Oral and Facial Surgery to provide a level of care that reflects our history: disciplined, meticulous, and profoundly tailored to the individual. Dr. David Rasmussen DMD, MD

Dr. Rasmussen grew up in Eastern Oregon and attended Boise State University (BS, 2005). He completed dental school at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry (DMD, 2009.) He then attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill School of Medicine (MD, 2011), completed a general surgery intern year (2013), and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency in 2015.
After residency, he served as the sole provider of maxillofacial surgical services for Naval Air Station Lemoore from 2015-2018. From 2018-2020 he served overseas as the Maxillofacial Surgeon for 3D Dental Battalion, Okinawa, Japan. He is currently serving as faculty with the oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training program at Naval Medical Center San Diego.
Dr. Rasmussen currently lives in San Diego with his wife and 3 children. He is board-certified in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and an active member of the American Medical Association, American Dental Association, and American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Travis Scholer completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Nevada Las Vegas in Biology in 2009. Realizing his passion for the field of surgery, he completed his master’s degree in biomedical sciences prior to earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) from Midwestern University in Glendale Arizona, graduating as class valedictorian (Suma Cum Laude) in 2015. He then went on to complete a 4-year residency program at The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, where he earned his specialty certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2019.
He is excited to serve the San Diego community while also continuing to serve his country as an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon in the United States Navy.
Dr. Scholer is married with three children, they enjoy spending time in the outdoors hiking, surfing, scuba diving, hunting, fishing, and traveling. Dr. Scholer also enjoys extreme sports, MMA, and supporting his favorite sports teams.

Dr. Eric Bischoff DMD, FACS

Dr. Bischoff grew up in Spokane, WA. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, with honors from the University of California at Los Angeles in 2004.
After graduation, he worked as a chemist for the Henkel Corporation in Irvine, CA before going on to dental school at the Goldman School of Dental Medicine at Boston University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Doctorate of Medicine in Dentistry in 2009.
In December of 2010, Dr. Bischoff was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy Dental Corps. After three years as a general dentist, he attended residency at Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas, TX where he earned his advanced certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2016.
Upon completion of his residency, he received orders to the largest, forward-deployed overseas naval hospital in Okinawa, Japan. There he served as staff Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and department head.
During his tenure in Okinawa, he achieved board certification through the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and was published in the Atlas of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America. In addition, he was selected as a reviewer for the journal Head and Neck Pathology.
His next assignment was at the Naval Medical Center San Diego where he was the Program Director for the Navy’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency in San Diego.
Dr. Bischoff is married with three children and enjoys the many wonderful outdoor activities that Southern California has to offer.
